Bubbling earth / Mt. Lassen

This is from the area In Mt. Lassen (N. Calif.) know as "Bumpass Hell". It's a boiling, bubbling morass of steam and hot earth in the volcanic park. The story goes that Mr. Bumpass tried to lay claim to this part of land early in the 20th century and while scoping the premises out, fell through the top layer of earth into the volcanic muck. Sadly, he lost his leg in the incident (and never returned to stake his claim!) The next few shots are also from a recent trip to Lassen.

The South Beach Marina, S.F. I did not have my tripod or my best lens on for this one, but luckily there was a water fountain I could rest my camera on to stabilize. I may have to go back to this spot again with the proper equipment.

I went out shooting at lunch on Thursday but the light was pretty dull due to the thick fog everywhere along the Embarcadero. I stumbled uppon this walkway that I had never noticed before. It made an interesting juxtaposition with the Bay Bridge I thought - wish the light had been better.

Bridgeport runway approach

The small town of Bridgeport lies on Hwy 395 in the eastern part of the Sierra, California. Not much traffic at the airport that day.

To me, this photo has an abstract painting quality to it. The distortion at the top was caused by reflection off the underside of the wing. I thought about removing it at first but decided it adds a certain something to the entire shot.

I found these rocks pre-formed on a somewhat precarious hillside ledge. Somebody took great care to get them just right. Another foggy morn on Ring Mtn. with no other people in sight... I like it that way - makes for better photography.
